If you are to look at the third quarter's sales report for the full-size pickup truck sector of the US car market, you could interpret it in two distinct ways.
One, you could say the Ford Motor Company still makes the best-selling truck nameplate in America – the F-Series moved over 190k trucks during the period from July through September 2023. Meanwhile, the second-placed Chevy Silverado and Ram Trucks trailed FoMoCo's hero series, and things won't change when the facelifted 2024 Ford F-150 goes on sale in due time.

However, if you look at the overall performance of the Big Detroit Three, the Chevy Silverado plus GMC Sierra equals a lot more trucks than Ford's F-Series. And the grand total is also favorable for GM – over 621k trucks (including EVs) as opposed to FoMoCo's 573+k performance. So, it's safe to say that it all depends on your POV, and that GM continues to duke it out with Ford as if nothing else mattered.

Naturally, General Motors might find itself in a bit of a predicament soon. That's because the refreshed 2024 Ford F-150 was recently presented and will quickly reach nationwide dealerships to potentially give a jolt to fourth-quarter sales. Additionally, it will take a little while for Stellantis' Ram Trucks division to present its own facelift for the 1500 series, and that will put additional pressure on the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.

For what it's worth, the Silverado and Sierra have been around in their current form – the fourth-gen GMT T1XX iteration – since late 2017 and were offered on sale as 2019 model years. For the 2022 model year, the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 have already received a mid-cycle refresh, while the HDs have been rocking some of the coolest adventure rides thanks to the ZR2 Bison and AT4X AEV Edition. But is that enough to win the full-size pickup truck wars?

Well, if the conflict ever degenerates into an apocalyptic landscape, count on the imaginative realm of digital car content creators to still propose a worthy pickup truck. For example, the good folks over at a newly-established FutureAutoVisions channel on YouTube are committed to "cutting-edge ideas that will shape the future of transportation."

One of their initial designs concerned the AI-styled options for the future of the Chevrolet Silverado series. There's an entire preview of no less than ten AI-designed concepts, and most of them imagine a rugged and adventurous styling for the Silverado and Silverado HD. If we were to choose a favorite, the fifth version seems the most likely – though only if you need the iconic pickup truck to dwell around in a dystopian future.

However, no matter how wacky these concepts are, they do follow some of the traditional Chevy Silverado guidelines as established by the GM division – it needs to be ruggedly handsome and also feature the latest design cues, such as the split-headlight styling. But do you think they are merely wishful thinking, or are there any chances of the next iteration, the fifth-gen Chevy Silverado, to look even remotely like one of these virtual prototypes?

Well, if I were a gambler (which I'm not), I would stay clear of the more exotic ideas and hope that GM will allow Chevrolet to continue running the ICE-powered Silverado right alongside the EV version – otherwise, this exercise and all others like it would quickly be rendered futile!
