As ever, the Ford Motor Company is much obliged to remind us that it makes the best-selling truck in America. Compared to the Chevrolet Silverado, the F-Series truly is America’s favorite pickup truck. But on the other hand, remember that General Motors makes the Silverado-twinned GMC Sierra.
That being said, how did they fare in the last quarter? According to the sales reports attached below, the F-Series moved 190,477 trucks in the three-month period from July 2023 through September 2023. The F-150 Lightning all-electric pickup truck is listed with 3,503 units to its name.

It should be noted that said total includes the medium-duty line of trucks. Over at General Motors, the Silverado flaunts no fewer than 143,467 units in the past quarter. As for the Sierra, make that 73,219 units. In other words, the Detroit-based automaker is well ahead of its crosstown rival in the full-size truck segment. Oh, and by the way, General Motors also delivered 18 units of the Silverado EV and 1,167 units of the Hummer EV.

Year to date, General Motors once again dominates the Ford Motor Company. Including the Silverado EV and Hummer EV, full-size pickup truck deliveries total 629,201 as opposed to 573,370 for the Blue Oval. On that note, please take Ford’s marketing balderdash with a sizable pinch of salt.

How did Chrysler do with the Ram P/U series? Including the 1500 Classic, deliveries for the Ram Truck are listed as 109,391 for the quarter and 332,440 year to date. As far as Toyota is concerned, the Japanese automaker likes to split its new vehicle deliveries into internal combustion and electrified. As a result, the combustion-only Tundra i-FORCE and hybrid-assisted Tundra i-FORCE MAX netted 11,261 and 2,592 sales (and 113,939 year to date).

Not bad for the relatively expensive Tundra, which starts at $39,965 sans destination freight charge. However, the most expensive half-ton pickup in the segment is the poor-selling Titan. Going the way of the dodo after the 2024 model year, Nissan’s truck enjoyed 4,857 deliveries in the past quarter and 15,407 deliveries year to date. Then again, what did you expect from a subpar truck that costs $45,770 from the outset? Pretty ridiculous money, indeed!

Although not technically a full-size pickup, the Rivian R1T also deserves your attention. Similar to Elon Musk’s Tesla, the Irvine-based automaker bundles R1T and R1S sales together, making it impossible to figure out how many R1Ts were sold. Be that as it may, we do know that Rivian delivered 15,564 vehicles and produced 16,304 vehicles in the third quarter. With a bit of luck, the company will assemble 52,000 vehicles by the end of the year.

When it comes to the mid-size truck segment, GM and Toyota are duking it out for supremacy. With the Japanese automaker switching to a brand-new platform for the 2024 model year Tacoma, it’s hardly surprising that the Colorado and Canyon dominated Q3 2023 sales. What about compacts? Believe it or not, the Maverick outsold the Santa Cruz by approximately 15,000 units in Q3 2023.
