Frankfurt-bound 2012 Honda Insight Exempt from London Congestion Charge

Honda’s Insight has never managed to capture the hearts of eco-minded drivers in the same way that the Prius did, and it seems that regular combustion engines are catching up even without the use of electric motors.
Thus, Honda has announced the introduction o a cleaner version of the hybrid, and we can expect the debut to take place at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The biggest headline for the Insight is that t has dropped its CO2 output below the 100, with emissions now standing at 96 grams per kilometer for the 2012 model.

Of course, these changes mean that the 2012 Insight qualifies for exemption from the London Congestion Charge, and falls into the lowest VED band, meaning owners will pay no annual road tax. The new figures also ensure that Insight remains in one of the lowest groups for Benefit in Kind taxation.

This was made possible through aerodynamic tweaks and powertrain efficiency. Reduced engine friction, changes to the CVT transmission and improved air conditioning all contribute to  lower fuel consumption.

The 2012 model also brings cosmetic changes, such as a new front grille that similar to the old one but looks more refined. It’s the same story round the back, where slimmer spoiler, modified tailgate garnish, and a reduction in the size of the wiper motor all help make the Insight more refined.
