Four Cars’ Horns Are Put to Good Use, for Once

Most of us have a natural reaction when we hear a car’s horn sound: we either tend to get out of the way or search for the source of the sound and prepare the worst swear words we can think of.
That’s right, the horn has long lost its initial role of warning another car or a pedestrian of your presence in potentially dangerous situations, and has become a much more polite and universal equivalent of “f**k you!”

Even though it’s illegal to use the horn in most cities except for emergency situations, people seem to have very different understandings of what constitutes an emergency. Sure, a car coming in from a side road that doesn’t look like it will stop in time does qualify as a situation worthy of sounding the horn, but only if you do it so that it yells at the driver “Hey, I’m over here!” If it’s done after you’ve swerved and cleared the vehicle, it still counts as a “f**k you!”

That’s why we don’t take it kindly when someone uses the horn on us, even though sometimes all they want to say is “coming through, make way.” As for the rest of the people who aren’t an integral part of the traffic, it’s become a part of the normal urban background noise.

And then there are these four guys and their cars. They were probably just bored on a sunny afternoon in campus and figured doing something like this was cool, but what they actually managed to do was remind us that horn sounds can be more than just curse words in disguise. Or, at least, they can substitute swearing in a very melodious way.

The hardest part was getting four cars with horns that sound so differently, but once that was done, all it took was for somebody to play the role of the conductor and arrange the composition so that it best resembled a piece of music. Of course, they stayed clear of any Mozart or Wagner and chose a much more appropriate tune: the kids song “Wheels on the bus go round and round.” It’s not the most thrilling video you’ll see in your life, but the way they cheer at the end as if they’d won the Olympic gold medal is quite funny.
