The Ford Bronco is going to be made in China for the local market. The carmaker applied for the sales license, and the model will enter production there in 2024 at the latest.
The model will be manufactured by the Jiangling Ford joint venture with slightly different design elements compared to the Bronco that currently sells in the United States and Europe.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed photos of two four-door Broncos, which might be an indication that there will not be a two-door variant on the Chinese market. The two vehicles also sport two kinds of wheels, bumpers, and fender extensions, which are probably variations of different trims.

The most significant change compared to the US-specced Bronco seems to be the 'Ford' lettering on the radiator grille, positioned right above the 'Bronco' lettering but in a different font. There are also Chinese letters on the tailgate.

According to MIIT, the SUV measures 189-190 inches (4,800-4,825 millimeters) in length, 81.5 inches (2,070 millimeters) in width, and 78.3 inches (1,990 millimeters) in height, sorting a wheelbase of 116.1 inches (2,950 millimeters).

If the numbers provided by MIIT are real, they are slightly different compared to those of the US-specced 2023 Bronco: 75.9 inches (1,928 millimeters) in width and 73 inches (1,854 millimeters) in height. But proportions may vary depending on equipment (wheels, fenders, and others).

The local media claims the cabin of the Bronco will stay the same in China as in the United States. But we will know more about that when the SUV goes on sale. We expect some changes in trims and display sizes as well.

The Chinese customers will be getting the turbocharged 2.3-liter engine built in China by the Changan Ford joint venture. The unit is capable of 271 horsepower (275 PS) and 336 lb-ft (455 Nm), which are different from the output and torque of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost that is available in the American market and is rated at 300 horsepower (304 PS) and 325 lb-ft (441 Nm)>

The engine should be mated to a locally built eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the ten-speed gearbox.

The Ford Bronco will be made in China starting sometime in 2024 and it should hit the market, according to Car News China, by a starting price of 300,000 yuan (%41,222). The move is going to spare Ford the local taxes, which take the current Bronco at more than double that price right now on the Chinese market: 700,000 - 1.2 million yuan ($96,187 - $164,892).

Despite the prohibitive pricing, Ford sold 80,000 Broncos in China in the first six months of 2023.

Another model that Ford will build in China is the Ranger pickup truck, which is expected to enter production by the end of the year.
