The wicked-looking 2024 Ford Mustang GT3 is getting ready for the GT World Challenge in Europe, with the first round set to take place in April next year. The race car has been lapping the Misano circuit, accompanied by a frightening soundtrack.
It is the soundtrack provided by the cross-plane crank 5.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, developed by Ford Performance and M-Sport and based on the 5.0-liter Coyote power unit. That is exactly why it sounds the way it does while it tears up the race track at Misano. The absolutely wild sound must have woken up the entire area around the circuit.

The engine is positioned as low and as far back as the layout allowed, a move that enabled Ford to increase the wheelbase over that of the production Mustang Dark Horse.

In the 2024 season, the Mustang GT3 will race in the GT World Challenge Europe for the Italian team Dinamic GT. There is no information on the output of the race car, but the GT3 cars standardly hit anywhere between 500 and 600 horsepower, steered towards the rear wheels via a rear-mounted six-speed sequential Xtrac transaxle gearbox.

It looks like Dinamic GT still needs some testing to find the perfect balance for the next season, as the car looked unstable at times, with the rear end seeming to want to step out of the game. The shakedown previews the first round of the competition, scheduled to take place on the April 5-7 weekend in 2024.

The GT3 is based on the S650 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, which got converted into a full-blown race car. It comes with carbon fiber body panels and an aerodynamic package, which improves airflow. It integrates a large front splitter, a prominent rear diffuser, and several cutouts that reduce vortexes around the body that now sports ballooned-out fenders at both front and rear. A massive wing mounted on the rear pillars brings the necessary downforce.

The model is equipped with a bespoke short-long arm suspension that Ford designed and developed together with Multimac, sporting an unequal-length double-wishbone setup.

The Ford Mustang GT3 will also race for the German team Proton Competition in the LMGT class of the World Endurance Race (WEC) against the Porsche 911 GT3 R on a 37-car grid, and we are to see it next year at Le Mans. That is where it was unveiled this past summer.

To build the Mustang GT3, Ford stripped down all the creature comforts on board the Mustang Dark Horse in their attempt to reduce weight as much as possible, and instead, a roll cage showed up to comply with the GT3 regulations. There is a single Recaro-branded seat in front of a steering wheel covered in buttons and controls.
