A Ford driver crashed into Joe Biden’s motorcade right under the president's eyes, in Wilmington, Delaware. The head of state was rushed into the armored car that was there to transport him and driven away from the scene of the incident. The president and the first lady left the place unharmed.
President Joe Biden was conversing with the reporters about the poll numbers, following a dinner with the staff at the re-election campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, on Sunday evening, just after 8 PM, while walking back to his car. A powerful sudden noise startled the president.

He turned to see what the commotion was about and remained in place. But his security agents had a quick reaction and rushed him to the armored SUV, which was there to transport the [resident. The First Lady, Jill Biden, was already seated inside the vehicle when the crash occurred.

A car had collided with a vehicle that was part of his security. The Secret Service vehicle was used to block off the nearby intersection, across from the building where President Biden had dinner, to make room for the motorcade as it departed the campaign headquarters.

The president was driven away to prevent further incidents. The driver reportedly kept on driving into the closed-off intersection after the collision until the security agents circled the beige Ford Five Hundred sedan with Delaware license plates and demanded the driver to put his hands up. In the television footage, the agents are also heard asking the driver to open the door. The Ford had a damaged front bumper following the impact with the USSS SUV.

An investigation is currently underway. However, the driver was not considered a serious threat to the president. The 46-year old man has been charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and inattentive driving. Nobody was injured in the incident, according to David Karas, a spokesman for the Wilmington Police Department.

The Secret Service issued a statement that said that "there was no protective interest associated with this event." This translates to the crash being accidental. The driver did not even know that Joe Biden was visiting the street. The Bidens returned safely to their residence in Wilmington following the crash.

On Sunday night, Biden was not traveling in his famous Beast presidential car that he bragged about to China’s President Xi Jinping after a meeting in San Francisco last month. Back then, the US President also pointed out the Jinping's state limousine was what he called "a beautiful car."

The Beast is a modded Cadillac built by General Motors, which made its debut on September 24, 2018, with Donald Trump’s trip to New York. The presidential limousine reportedly cost a whopping $15.8 million.
