Ford’s C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid has surpassed expectations, as it has been rated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at a very respectable 100 MPGe combined, thus making it America’s most fuel-efficient vehicle of its kind.
It beats the Toyota Prius Plug-In’s figure of 95 MPGe, as well as the 98 MPGe achieved by the Chevy Volt. As it so happens with these types of vehicles, the C-Max Energi is more efficient in town, where it achieves 108 MPGe, while highway economy drops slightly, to 92 MPGe.
Once it goes on sale, later this year, it will pose a serious threat to the two aforementioned rivals, as well as the Nissan Leaf, and if the 969 C-Max non-plug-in Hybrids sold in September are anything to go by, the Energi may become the sector leader.
