As we told you yesterday, Ford Motor Co. has officially confirmed a new engine for the 2014 Fusion model. Though initial rumors were pointing out a three-cylinder unit, the company introduced a 1.5-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost for their new four-door sedan.
Ford’s latest four-cylinder engine, which will be initially built at the company’s plant in Craiova, Romania, is the fifth member of the EcoBoost family and will be also fitted in the Chinese and European market all-new Mondeo versions as well.
The Blue Oval has yet to reveal power and fuel economy data, but stated that the 1.5-liter EcoBoost is expected to provide similar HP and torque performance to the current 1.6-liter EcoBoost, improved fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emisions. Also, the new mill will feature some of the innovative features introduced on the 1.0-liter EcoBoost, such as an integrated exhaust manifold.
"Ford EcoBoost technology has changed the way people look at gas engines and has enjoyed huge success with customers," said Joe Bakaj, vice president, powertrain engineering for Ford. "The new 1.5-liter unit further extends our EcoBoost promise of economical driving in terms of both fuel efficiency and – in some markets – tax savings."
Further information on the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine will be released later this year.
