There are certain things that only kids can get away with and that’s a #fact. One of those things is being able to call 911 to order pizza and not get in trouble. You might even get your pizza, after all.
It happened in Sanford, Florida, last week, as the Sanford Police Department says on the official Facebook page. A 5-year-old boy called 911 and a unit was dispatched for a wellbeing check. On the way there, the officers found out the real reason why the kid had called the emergency service number and it was not what they had assumed.

“Officers Morales, Mejia, and Hernandez responded to a home on Key Haven Dr., for a well-being check on a 911 call made by a juvenile. While officers were on their way, dispatch informed them that the child told them he was hungry and wanted to order pizza,” the PD says.

And here comes the twist. Us grown-ups would get arrested or even a harsh lecture on why we shouldn’t call 911 for stupid reasons like this one. After all, using the emergency service numbers without proper cause is illegal. But this was a kid and he was really hungry.

“After arriving on scene, officers met the young boy and his older sister. She told officers they were fine and her brother had grabbed the phone without her knowledge. Officers used it as an opportunity to teach about the proper use of 911, then went and bought a large box of pizza and personally delivered it,” the PD further says.

Indeed, children learn better through positive experience than they do by scolding or having something hammered into their brain, so chances are this boy will never make the same mistake again.

That said, don’t call 911 if you’re hungry. Cops only act as delivery drivers on notable exceptions like this one.
