Mazda started production of the all-new Atenza in Japan earlier this week. This mid-size brand has existed in the car world since 2002, but with the arrival of a brand new generation, the Japanese automaker is moving things in a completely new direction.
We have the first video footage of the Mazda6 Wagon filmed as it was coming off the assembly line at Hofu City, Yomaguchi Prefecture. Starting with August 2nd, 2012, the mid-size model will be made exclusively at at Hofu Plant 2.
Until now, the car used a platform shared with the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan or Lincoln MKZ. It also used to be made in Flat Rock (Michigan), Columbia for South American and even China.
But in an effort to increase global manufacturing efficiencies, the entire 120,000 units per year for the global market will now come from Japan.
The car in this video is powered by a new Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter petrol engine and is destined for the European market.
According to an official statement, the worldwide premier of the Mazda6 will be held in Russia during the Moscow International Automobile Salon 2012, in August.
