Byron Glover Jr., the host of the Drive 615 channel on YouTube and a well-known C8 Chevy "stocker," manages an exclusively fast E-Ray launch control attempt while on a visit to the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park (NCMSP) in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Chevrolet is notoriously slow to add Corvette models to the roster – the C8 Stingray with its revolutionary new mid-engine layout was announced in April 2019, but production officially began almost a year later in February 2020. The Z06 homologation vehicle was revealed in October 2021 and only arrived on the market as a 2023 model year, while the first-ever Corvette E-Ray, the first with AWD and a hybrid powertrain, was announced in January 2023 and more than a year later, it's still rarer than hen's teeth on the road.

In fact, even YouTubers need help to get their hands on one. For example, Byron – an owner of a C7 Corvette Z06, had to come to the NCMSP to get some one-on-one time with the 2024 Corvette E-Ray. The third version in the lineup, according to the official timeline but the intermediate pricing option – it costs $104,900 – the new hybrid uses the same 6.2-liter LT2 cross-plane naturally aspirated V8 from the Stingray but adds an electric motor at the front wheels, making it "a totally different animal" according to Byron, at least on the track.

In total, there's 655 combined horsepower, and the YouTuber says that he's driven the second-generation Acura NSX around the track and thinks the E-Ray is a lot more balanced – a lot of people were comparing the two for performance and other indicators even before the new Corvette became available. Officially, Chevrolet says the first-ever E-Ray is the quickest Corvette, with a zero to 60 mph time of 2.5 seconds and a standing quarter-mile time of 10.5 seconds.

However, previous testing revealed that Z06 and E-Rays will fight a lot to claim the title of quickest Corvette. Until now, that is. Byron started his latest feature like any other presentation review – but we've already seen all that, so let's just skip to the 8:50 mark when the driving impressions start on the track. He talks a lot during the ride behind another E-Ray on the NCMSP track, but toward the end of the run, there's also a clean lap with no commentary.

Then, of course, the moment we have all been waiting for comes toward the end of the video – the socialite's real-world zero to 60 mph test. Well, first of all, a classic error that we have seen happen even to experienced quarter-mile racers at the local dragstrip – he does an E-Ray launch control fail because he forgot to put the transmission into Drive. Well, maybe that was a lucky charm because next up, the 60-mph test is flawless, and Byron achieves an on-board time of 2.1 seconds!

That's certainly the best we have seen out there, and possibly even a world record, but it's also not homologated by independent readings – only the vehicle's data logger. So, take it or leave it as it is, right? Anyway, the feat is still impressive since the E-Ray is meant to be enjoyed all year long, no matter if it's summer or winter, and also at the track. Now, let's see some quarter-mile passes soon, shall we?
