We really can't stress enough what Citroen is doing to the DS brand. One of the most iconic names in the European auto industry is rapidly transforming into a long wheelbase range of showy Chinese models.
After the DS 5LS sedan which just went on sale in the People's Republic, the next Citroen coming is a large SUV. Previewed last year by the Wild Rubis Concept, it will be called the DS X7, right after it makes its debut at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show in a little over a week's time.
Compared to Citroen's existing SUVs, the DS X7 is actually a looker, far more so than the C4 Aircross. The front end features a wide chrome grille with "wings" spreading out into the elegantly simple headlights.
Hopefully, the French will offer something similar to their loyal European consumers, but not with the same engines.
Having its platform borrowed from the DS5 (itself based on the Peugeot 3008), the X7 will be sold with a range of three engines. Two 1.6-liter turbos will deliver either 163 hp or 200 hp, while a 1.8-liter will serves as the base powertrain with an output of just 139 hp and 170 Nm of torque. At about 4.7 meters in length, the X7 will be relatively spacious and with prices starting at about 160.000 yuan ($26,000) it should prove popular.
