Those who doubted Citroen can still make exciting cars should now take a seat, grab a pen and paper and write down "sorry Citroen" a hundred times as we bring you the cooles details about this latest French concept, actually based on a production sedan from Asia.
While this is a Citroen, the DS 5LS R doesn't wear a double chevron at the front, and that's because it's a hot version of a a Chinese sedan from the DS range, which has just gone on sale there a few years ago. But while the normal car stops at 200 horsepower, this concept take a whole other approach and targets performance with an output of 300 hp and 400 Nm from a tiny 1.6-liter turbo engine.
To ensure the R version of the DS 5LS can handle all that power, it's been beefed up like an Audi S model, fitted with lowered suspension, flared fenders, a full set of carbon fiber spoiler and a paintjob that's worth at least 100 horsepower all by itself (not an actual fact).
That's right, the 5LS R is finished in a very dark, very sexy shade of red with a brushed tinted like you get on upscale BMW and Mercedes. Shades of gray and the dark metallic tone of the alloy wheels bring out the best fake Parisian look a Chinese concept could ever have.
For the interior, the designers chose black leather and Alcantara, bucket-style seats, carbon inserts. Only a few Carmine Red accents uplift the dark cabin. It's almost as if Citroen, realizing it's made a rival for the A3 sedan in China, designed its own version of the S3 as a concept, just to show it can.
Look for the concept sports sedan at the Beijing Auto Show between April 20 and 29.
