Citroen has lost some of its quirkiness in recent years in order to target the boring, middle-aged VW buyers. But they haven’t completely lost their crazy ways.
Case in point, the new DS3 Cabrio, the first ever convertible model of the DS range. Yes, the Citroen borrows from the Fiat 500 in that it’s got its a retractable canvas top replacing only the roof. This isn’t exactly a new idea, but they’ve improved on the design.
For example, unlike the Fiat 500, the roof is colored. In one of the videos provided by Citroen, you’ll even see the strange configuration for the boot, which has now become a little oven door that retracts upward so you can shove the cake in. Very unpractical, but also quite cool and French. The MINI Convertible definitely doesn’t have something like that.
You can also watch the video for the top opening mechanism below. It’s very poetic, like a piece of French velour folding away neatly.
