While this isn't an EV, we feel that it's important to mention it, because in a world where 1.5-billion people have no electricity, inventions like the German-designed SolarKiosk may help very poor areas move up the civilization ladder. The first of these fully-autonomous solar-powered kiosks is now up and running in one of the most unlikely places in the world - Ethiopia.
Consider this: Ethiopia has one of the hottest climates in the world, and all that solar energy goes to waste all the time. While solar powered-this-and-that may not be an option in areas where the weather is ever-changing, it makes perfect sense in the arid wilderness of Africa, where the sun is always shining, and people have no electricity or fuel and have to do everything by hand. Aside from powering it self, the SolarKiosk can actually run an additional telecommunication tower (or something else), as well as storing extra power for other uses - it is a great idea which is very useful in Africa and they should take full advantage of it!

We are really impressed by this, and maybe EV conversions are the way out for poor African people who just want to move about, but don’t have access to oil-based fuels, or the necessary funds. We say going electric is the way out of poverty for Africa and this kiosk is showing them the way, and is the first step in the right direction! Also, the French adventurer who drove his EV throughout Africa without a hitch proves that vehicles powered by electricity can work in inhospitable conditions.
