Citroen has just released the first images and information about the convertible version of their highly-successful chic city runabout, the DS3, ahead of its official unveiling, at the Paris Motor Show, in September. However, if you were expecting some sort of clever folding-hardtop mechanism, you’d be gravely disappointed, as the DS3 Cabrio features a similar setup to that of the Fiat 500C.
It features a retractable canvas top, and when we say top, we mean top, as it is only the upper part that folds away - the car shares all its pillars with the regular model, but it has a big opening in its roof. Citroen are saying that the additional mechanisms only add 25 kg to the entire weight of the car, which is “just 25% of typical hatchback to convertible weight gain”, as they say it.
The DS3 Cabrio will undoubtedly be a hit amongst ladies who have already rejected the Mini Cabrio and the Fiat 500C, yet are still looking for a car which is very similar to both of those - the DS3 also has that extra bit of French ‘je ne sais quoi’ which will definitely be the deal-sealer for many potential buyers.
