A brand new BMW M5 is out, faster and more expensive than every BMW M5 that ever was. So naturally, it's time to distort it slightly in the eternal search for originality. Yes, we're looking at one of the first custom models.
The works of BMW Abu Dhabi, supposedly the biggest dealership of its kind in the world, are always nice to present. They are not as over-the-top as regular tuning, with a kind of OEM+ look that's stayed consistent over the years. It makes you wonder if all these cars were actually bought by the same person.

Like literally half the Abu Dhabi projects, this M5 has AC Schnitzer body parts. The most notable one is the bolt-on wing over the trunk. It's big enough to be considered an eyesore and yet not sufficient for that racecar look.

Pain is the most novel thing we have here, as this M5 Competition is the first F90 to be finished in Austin Yellow. The color made famous by the M3 and M4 can be ordered through BMW Individual and seems like a good match for the design of the super-wide sedan. Park this next to the white S-Class that everybody owns in the Middle East and people will know you've both something special.

As far as we can tell, the rest of the kit comes not from AC Schnitzer, but from BMW themselves. Even though the Competition is supposed to be the extreme version of the M5, you still need to go into the M Performance catalog and order things like the side skirts or the carbon fiber blades on the front bumper.

About the only thing we'd keep other than the color is the wheels and that Akrapovic exhaust system. BMW still don't offer a good aural experience right out of the box, and the exhaust specialists from Slovenia are very good at fixing it. They've even installed carbon tips, not to save weight but to show off. So this is like an exercise into making an overweight AWD sedan even heavier.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
