When the LaFerrari Aperta was revealed in July 2016, the Maranello-based automaker made it clear it will make only 209 examples of the open-top breed. It so happens that an additional Aperta is in the pipeline, which will be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s Ferrari - Leggenda E Passione sale on September 9.
That’s right, ladies and gents! The final count stands at 210 units, and this decision shouldn’t come as a surprise to auction and Prancing Horse aficionados. Ferrari pulled off a similar stunt in December 2016, when the 500th and final fixed-head LaFerrari fetched $7 million for charity. Thus, the hybrid brute became the most expensive 21st century car sold at auction.
Not yet constructed, LaFerrari Aperta #210 will be shown to the world of September 9, 2017, during the automaker’s 70th anniversary. “All proceeds for the vehicle will be sold to benefit charity, channeling our passion to support those in need.” And the estimate for this noteworthy addition to any tifosi’s stable? Anything from €3 to €4 million, but that may be an understatement from RM Sotheby’s part. This being a genuine one-off that will be sold for charity, the winning bid will certainly surpass the $7M mark.

At the Ferrari - Leggenda E Passione sale, RM Sotheby’s will also try to find a new home to rarefied automobiles such as the world’s only road-going 365 GTB/4 with an aluminum body, the wind tunnel model for the 812 Superfast, 488 Spider “Green Jewel,” as well as a bite-the-back-of-your-hand beautiful 250 Europa Coupe by Vignale. As a matter of fact, the lots also include a panting of the 3.0-liter V12 plant from Ferrari’s prettiest F1 car, the 312.
