Ferrari 488 GTB vs. Ferrari F12 Russian Drag Race Is No Maranello Matryoshka

Truth be told, back in the days when Ferrari's lineup was comprised solely of naturally aspirated models, the F12berlinetta made the 458 Italia's straight line abilities seem less than memorable. Of course, it was all a matter of torque and now that the 458 has been replaced by the 488, we need to see how this has affected the situation.

Prancing Horses might be even better at delivering driving thrills than drag racing and yet this won't stop owners from engaging in sprinting battles, so the idea dropped in the intro is more than relevant.

Case in point with the pair of Fezzas in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, whose owners decided to go for a complete drag brawl.

To be more precise, the two got involved in the Russian drag racing championship, with the event that saw them being thrown at each other including both quarter-mile and half-mile statistics.

Time for a bit of on-screen racing

So, what do the numbers tell us? Well, the two Maranello machines are extremely close in terms of the power-to-weight ratio. To be more precise, the 488 GTB comes with 2.5 kilos per kilogram, while the F12 burdens each of its horses with 2.6 kilograms.

However, the twin-turbo nature of the 488's 3.9-liter V8 means that it dominates the 6,262cc V12 of the F12 in the torque fight (we're talking 760 Nm or 561 lb-ft against 690 Nm or 509 lb-ft).

Returning the real world adventure we're here to discuss, the reaction times obviously plays an important role in such a battle. Fortunately, the video of the race displays all the numbers you'll ever need to get a complete view of the battle.

As for the aural side of the brawl we have here, the winner of the Decibel Cup (that's right, we love imaginary trophies) is obvious.
