I don't know about FoMoCo's corner-office head honchos, but if I were them, I would feel my seat dangling at the precipice of the Grand Canyon, at least as far as the pickup truck segment is concerned.
Reports are multiplying that Tesla is finally ready to kick off production and deliveries of the Tesla Cybertruck and the event set for November 30 might include the very first customers units. That's a potential endgame narrative for the GMC Hummer EV, Rivian R1T, and especially the popular Ford F-150 Lightning.
Additionally, Ram Trucks just unleashed the first official details about the refreshed 2025 Ram 1500 series, complete with a new Hurricane family of SST (straight-six turbo) 3.0-liter engine and the return of the Ramcharger branding as an EV pickup truck with a V6 range extender churning out no less than 663 hp and featuring great payload and towing ratings.
As such, Ford's truck business will be pounded from many different directions – especially if GM also puts the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV into production. So, maybe, they need an escape – how about the full-size SUV business? Over there, the fourth-generation Ford Expedition has been treading water since the introduction of the 'U553' iteration in early 2017 for the 2018 model year.
The company has given this all-important Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon rival a bunch of versions – from King Ranch to FX4 – as well as a trio of model year changes over the years. But maybe it's time to see it explore a new generation? Well, at least that's the opinion across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators – where Dimas Ramadhan, the virtual automotive artist behind the Digimods DESIGN channel on YouTube, has taken up the task of revealing an 'all-new' Ford Expedition.
Not just that, but the pixel master has also reworked the hypothetical fifth generation Expedition SUV as a veritable flagship-level Expedition R by taking cues directly from the newly refreshed 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R. This course of digital action, of course, also begs an interesting question – did the author also transplant the heart along with the looks? If he did, then we are looking at a full-size SUV powered not by the eternal 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 but rather by the mind-blowing 5.2-liter supercharged V8 with 700 hp on tap!
That would be glorious, of course. However, I wouldn't bet my office lunch money on something like this appearing in the real world. More likely, the big Ford Expedition will continue to soldier on as a fourth generation for a few years more – and instead perhaps the Blue Oval designers will give it an additional nip and tuck to resemble the updated 2024 F-150 pickup truck a little more.
