Taking an instantly recognizable classic car and giving it a fully electric drivetrain isn’t exactly new anymore. It’s also logical, as people seek to enjoy timeless automotive creations even in a zero-emissions era. Hopefully, it’s also going to become more affordable down the line.
For now, access to this elite segment is restricted to folks with enough money to support not just the cost of acquiring an iconic car but also to endure the EV conversion. Fortunately, even small startups are looking to secure every aspect of the ownership experience.

One such company is UK’s Everrati Automotive (formerly ionic cars), which has been turning the 964-generation Porsche 911 Targa and the Mercedes-Benz SL Pagoda into state-of-the-art EVs since 2019. Even though it’s new on the market of EV-powered classic cars, the company aims to have a major impact in the quest to give iconic cars a taste of the high-tech electric revolution.

And the latest issue they decided to address directly has to do with the traditional EV chore of charging. Of course, they’re not alone at it, enlisting the help of InstaVolt. That's a UK-based public charging network that adheres to an “open-charger” philosophy where multiple car brand users don’t need subscriptions or membership cards and instead use the chargers on a “pay-as-you-go basis.”

Our vision is to create the world’s most iconic electric cars, redefining iconic internal combustion engine ‘ICE’ cars into cosmetically improved, zero-emission vehicles. Our cars are designed to be driven and enjoyed, with InstaVolt as our recommended public charging network, our customers will be sure they can access highly reliable, rapid charging whenever they need it,” explains Justin Lunny, Everrati’s CEO.

InstaVolt and Everrati have decided to partner up. Hence, the former is now the “recommended rapid and ultra-rapid public charging provider for Everrati,” with owners of the Everrati-converted SL Pagodas or 911s getting a special package that includes a special RFID that can be used across the 550-unit strong charging network.
