Nowhere in the world are tiny houses more spectacular than in Australia. The tiny living movement has fallen on fertile ground in this part of the world, offering an affordable, sustainable, and more flexible way of living for people looking to get away from the chaotic rat race.
The Australian housing market is bursting with an overwhelming variety of designs and layouts, each one as unique as its owner and each showing that compact dwellings can be sustainable, minimalist, and beautiful at the same time. A perfect example is the Eureka model from Tiny House by Hangan.

This beautiful tiny home boasts character and sophistication and makes no compromises in terms of functionality, making the idea of living in a tiny home an appealing prospect for many.

Actually, all the tiny homes coming out of Tiny House by Hagan's factory in Yarra Valley, near Melbourne, Australia, can tempt even the naysayers to try out the tiny living lifestyle. That's because the company has enough experience in the field to build your tiny home exactly as you envision it, and from what we have seen so far, they are experts at offering a balanced blend of functionality and style within a compact space.

Since its founding in 2017, the team has custom designed and built over 50 tiny houses ranging from 13 to 36 feet (4 to 11 meters) in length. Eureka is one of their latest models and offers a well-proportioned interior for up to four people. It sits on a high-quality, custom-made steel chassis and measures 24 feet (7.2 meters) long and 8 feet (2.4 meters) wide, meaning it is within the legal limits for mobile dwellings and can be easily towed around if you are the adventurous type and want to explore various destinations without leaving behind the comforts of home.

Catching your eye even from a distance, this tiny home is finished in hardwood shiplap siding, providing a homogeneous surface. The wooden boards are aligned in clean vertical lines, giving this home a sleek, contemporary look. Together with the shed-style roof and large windows, it also creates the illusion of height, guiding the eye up toward the surrounding natural landscape.

A massive sliding aluminum glass entrance door leads inside the house and allows plenty of natural light to get in. The interior, lined with MDF boards throughout, is bright and spacious, with the large doors blurring the lines between the indoor and outdoor space and allowing residents to freely embrace the surroundings and create a deeper connection with nature. A wooden deck attached to the front of the house would also extend the living space and create a nice area for family gatherings and parties when the weather is right.

The 186 square feet (17.28 square meters) of interior space is leveraged to include a full kitchen, a cozy living area, an unexpectedly charming bathroom, and a loft bedroom.

While the exterior boasts a modern aesthetic, the interior gives off old country home vibes. The wood-burning fireplace in the lounge, the wooden open shelves in the kitchen, and the timber trimming around the windows might have something to do with the laid-back vibe and rustic sophistication.

The charming kitchen dominates a large part of the ground floor due to its central placement and leverages the seamless transition to the outside deck. With its long open shelves and cabinets that expose all the cookware and a gorgeous handmade Tasmanian Oak countertop, it looks like a rustic kitchen you usually find in old farmhouses. However, a two-hob electric cooktop, oven, range, double-sink, and under-counter fridge (there is space for a full-size fridge) serve well to remind you this is a kitchen designed for modern living.

The lounge makes the most of all the space available at one end of the house and fits a comfortable sofa that can turn into a bed if you need extra sleeping space. The sofa is strategically placed in front of the wood-burning stove, creating the perfect ambiance for relaxing evenings watching the TV.

At the opposite end of Eureka, you will be pleasantly surprised to find a lavish bathroom with a full-size walk-in tiled shower, a composting or flushing toilet, and an open-shelf vanity. A ceramic basin and a hexagonal mirror over the vanity increase the functionality of the space, while the combination of black tiles on the floor and white subway tiles on the walls give it a modern, elegant look.

The loft can be reached via a simple wood ladder and is just the right size to fit a queen-size mattress, offering a comfortable place to sleep for two people.

Tiny House by Hangan offers a wide array of customization options for the Eureka model, including off-the-grid capabilities, and a smaller version (16-foot-long) of this design is also available.

The completed version of the 24-foot-long Eureka tiny house starts at $126,000, but the final price can vary greatly based on custom features and materials. Built with quality insulation throughout and equipped with air conditioning and electric hot water, this compact home is meant for permanent living, but it would also make a perfect vacation rental, demonstrating the endless possibilities of tiny living.
