One of the new features coming to Tesla cars in a future software update could be a so-called Baby Mode that would allow for an even quieter environment inside.
Elon Musk recently confirmed on Twitter that Tesla is currently considering adding a Baby Mode in addition to existing Joe Mode that made its debut in the fall of the last year with the V10 update.

The purpose of Baby Mode would be reducing the volume of chimes within the vehicle even further, as many have previously complained that the Joe Mode isn’t enough for parents traveling with kids. So Baby Mode would expand this volume adjustment control, dealing with the loud chimes that could sometimes wake up babies or light sleepers.

But for now, however, the addition of Baby Mode to Tesla’s feature arsenal isn’t a certain thing. Elon Musk only said the company is “thinking about this,” so there’s obviously a chance that this idea is eventually abandoned.

Joe Mode was first confirmed by Elon Musk in July 2019 when he confirmed in a tweet that the purpose of this feature was to “lower the volume of strident beeps and chimes by half.

Early access software update documentation that then reached to the web confirmed the Joe Mode was indeed supposed to automatically control chimes inside the cabin.

Enabling Joe Mode reduces the volume of your car’s chimes. The quieter chimes continue to alert the driver effectively and minimize disruption to passengers (e.g. Joe’s kids). To enable Joe Mode, tap Controls > Safety & security > Joe mode,” the documents explained.

Joe Mode eventually went live as part of the V10 update, but many complain that its volume control still isn’t enough for those traveling with kids inside the car. Whether or not Tesla will get a Baby Mode is something that remains to be seen, but the company could very well end up simply adjusting the settings of Joe Mode for a more convenient approach.
