Born in 1976, the Honda Accord nameplate has become a staple of the mid-size family sedan business – the eternal runner-up to the best-selling Toyota Camry, at least in America.
In other parts of the world, although the eleventh generation Honda Accord was presented in late 2022 and went into production since January 2023 in places like the Marysville Auto Plant (US), Guangzhou (GAC Honda - China), Wuhan (Dongfeng Honda, China), or Prachinburi (Thailand), it's not even on the market yet. Such is the unfortunate case with Australia, for example.
Luckily, Honda Australia is gearing up for the approaching introduction of the all-new Accord in the Land Down Under. They're just starting the preparations, though, and we're given a sort of teaser with just one photo of the right-hand drive eleventh-gen 2024 Honda Accord for the local market. Other than that, "more images will be (offered) when available," and there's also no release date – let alone any pricing information.
As a reminder, Honda still offers the tenth generation called Accord 'Runout' with a 7-year (unlimited mileage) warranty, 7 years of premium roadside assistance and five low-price services, and two powertrains – a 188-hp gasoline engine and a 212-hp hybrid variant starting from AUD57,900 and AUD61,900, respectively. Soon, though, the eleventh-gen Accord will take over with "a sophisticated and sporty design and a fuel-efficient yet exhilarating driving experience."
Present on the Australian market since 1977, the Honda Accord is a veritable icon in the country and will arrive with "sophisticated" design touches like dark LED headlights, 18-inch Machined Matte Berlina Black wheels, an Active Shutter Grille system, plus four exterior colors: Platinum White Pearlescent, Lunar Silver Metallic, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, and Crystal Black Pearlescent.
Inside, there are more comfortable seats, improved visibility for the driver, more expansive storage and cargo space, and standard digital instrumentation throughout - a standard 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, a redesigned, bigger 11.5-inch head-up display, an Experience Selection Dial, and Honda's largest touchscreen, a 12.3-inch color unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Honda now integrates Google built-in, which includes "Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the latest apps and services on Google Play."
The new generation comes with one potential downgrade, though. More precisely, there is just one powertrain option – the e:HEV (two-motor) hybrid system first seen on the new CR-V e:HEV RS. The components include a "refined" 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine, an E-CVT, and two electric motors for a combined system output of 204 horsepower. The chassis, meanwhile, includes an Electric Power Steering (EPS), MacPherson strut front suspension, and an independent multi-link rear suspension.
Honda promises lower NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels – which means customers will better enjoy the standard 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. There are also Over the Air (OTA) software updates for the audio/connectivity ECU, engine control ECU, and integrated control modules. Last but not least, there's also the latest generation of Honda Connect and Honda Sensing suits onboard.
