Electric DMC DeLorean Would Fit Right Into Back to the Future

The DMC DeLorean was not a particularly successful car, and as a result neither was the company that made it. The moniker came and went at the start of the 1980s, and would have been forgotten by now if it weren’t for a certain movie series called Back to the Future.
Robert Zemeckis’ first flick in the series was at the time of its launch in 1985 the highest-grossing movie of the year. It quickly turned into a worldwide phenomenon, and even today’s moviegoers have at least heard something about it.

It was a combination of factors, from the director to the plot and the actors, that made Back to the Future great. And there is no question about it that the DeLorean is a major contributor too.

To recap a bit, the DMC vehicle is not just a car in the movie. Sure, it can drive like one, but most importantly, thanks to the use of something called flux capacitors and at times the strike of lighting bolts, it can travel to the past or the future with equal ease.

In some respects, one could argue that as far as time travel is concerned, the DeLorean is a sort of an electric car. Sure, it generally took the 1.21 gigawatts of power it needed from a plutonium-fueled nuclear reactor, but when plutonium was scarce, lightning bolts would do just fine.

At the time of writing, there are no plans to reboot the series. But what if there were, renderers from British insurance company Money have come up with a possible car producers could use, called E-Lorean (main photo). It is, in fact, the same DMC DeLorean with a few modern twists, only this time it would get its power from batteries, and its movement from electric motors.

We are not told anything about where power for the flux capacitors would come from, but really, what can beat plutonium or lighting bolts? Ah, right, garbage.
