Modern BMWs are cool and all, but nothing they offer today is as eye-catching as the E24 6 Series. It doesn't need a dozen air intakes and the grille is about 1/10 the size of the X7.
We can't even explain why. Objectively, it's just a car. But that front end design is out-of-this-world and it makes it look like a shark on land. Cars from the 80's are trending right now, just like the music and clothes of that era. Even so, this particular beauty slipped under our radar.
It's a Japanese tuning project that manages to combine the trademark style of the Liberty Walk package with the traditional BMW race car. Any man or woman should get an emotional connection from something like this.
The company is called Coutner Japan (no, not Counter) nad it seems they only make one kit. The package for the E24 costs $7,300 and is made from fiber-reinforced plastic. You also have to take into account that the package is custom-made, not kept in stock and shipping may add another $1,350 to the price.
The included parts are a new bumper in the CSL style, front over-fenders, rear ones, side skirts, rear fender-bumper side plates, a rear bumper flap set and that massive "Highrise" wing. And unlike most kits which are fake, this one is held together with real stainless self-tapping screws, so you'd better be committed to the look.
And by the way, the kit started like with a 3D laser scan of a stock 6er after which Kei Miura put to draws on his inspiration from his background in Japanese classic car culture. He's always been a big fan of classic BMWs, but we always pictured him as more of an E30 guy.
The snow-white presentation vehicle used to be a 635 CSi packing an inline-6 engine with 290 HP and 350 Nm. Certainly, purists aren't going to love something like this, but we did enjoy it.
