Now that the second-quarter sales are in for the American car market, everyone wants to talk about the magnificent performances of crossovers, SUVs, and especially trucks – with the usual suspects (F-Series, Tacoma, Maverick) posting spectacular Q2 and year-to-date results.
Hey, even sports cars got a quick shout-out because as the Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro prepared to bow out, they were pretty spectacular in their quest to become collectible items. But what about the other passenger car segments? Don't they deserve a word or two? Well, if that's not going to happen soon in the real world – as many of these nameplates are on the list of 'endangered species,' then the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has no problem accommodating.
And the latest example comes in the form of a compact Nissan. Why yes, the Japanese automaker embroiled with Carlos Ghosn and its offshore trials, plus the Renault Group and Mitsubishi Motors, still exists in the United States beyond the glorious Z sports car. In fact, they have quite a generous sedan offering, starting with the little Versa and going through Sentra, Altima, and Maxima options. Aside from being reasonably priced, we know they are currently only somewhat enticing.
Now even the 2024 Sentra, revamped in June, is set to arrive at nationwide dealerships with more on-board technology, refreshed styling, and improved fuel economy. But here's the digital catch. Instead of noticing the facelift for the B18 eighth generation, Dimas Ramadhan, the virtual automotive artist behind the Digimods DESIGN channel on YouTube, has directly taken up the task of revealing an all-new, ninth Sentra iteration - in CGI, of course.
Usually, the compact car has reasonable pricing and forgettable styling that helps it blend in with its suburban surroundings like a charm. Well, the tide has turned now, and the little sedan has morphed into a veritable pathfinder – quite literally, as the pixel master decided the Chinese shouldn't be the only ones graced with the new styling of the Nissan Pathfinder crossover SUV. As such, the CGI expert took ample cues from the Japanese CUV concept, one of the best and most surprising appearances earlier this spring, during Auto Shanghai 2023.
And, oddly enough, the more straightforward yet modern design works like a charm on the compact sedan, as well – even when the author directly borrowed the stacked LED headlight and grille with lightbar arrangement plus the slim taillights and threw them on top of the body of a current Sentra. At the same time, the profile only benefitted from the addition of the CUV concept's larger, ritzier wheels. All in all, not a bad CGI effort at all, right? Too bad it's all merely wishful thinking, and the refreshed 2024 Sentra is all that we are getting in the real world!
