The Dodge brand has been named the most innovative automaker of 2013, ranking 11 in Fast Company’s “World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies”.
The magazine says it chose Dodge “for being part of the conversation, no matter what” and lists a number of marketing initiatives, including the Ron Burgundy advertising campaign for the 2014 Dodge Durango, which helped boost the SUV’s sales by 59 percent last October.
Other initiatives that got Dodge on the list include the partnership with Universal Pictures on the Fast & Furious 6 movie, SyFy channel’s Defiance TV series, and signing rapper Pitbull for a number Dodge Dart ads.
"Muscle cars to multi-passenger vehicles, Dodge gives you performance and technology with an attitude and presence that transforms an everyday vehicle into a personal statement," said Tim Kuniskis, president and CEO of Dodge. "In an industry that is getting more and more commoditized, we capture this brand attitude and swagger in our marketing recipe to spark conversation and consideration."
Dodge was one of the only two automakers included in the Top 50. The second one was Tesla Motors, ranked 20. XL Hybrids, a Boston-based company that retrofits vans and truck with hybrid powertrains made no.35 on the list.
