Together with the Chrysler 300, the Charger will be discontinued after the 2023 model year. In the meantime, customers are presented with three V8 options and a lowly V6 that can be specified with all-wheel drive. The sweet spot in the lineup is the 392-ci leviathan with hemispherical combustion chambers, the 6.4-liter HEMI with 485 horsepower.
The naturally-aspirated mill further boasts 475 pound-foot (644 Nm) of tire-shredding torque, which is more than plentiful for a full-size muscle sedan with 275/40 by 20-inch rubber boots. The elephant in the room comes in the guise of curb weight, namely 4,427 pounds (2,008 kilograms) for this car.

Rolled out in 2004 for the 2005 model year, the LX vehicle architecture developed in collaboration with the Daimler Group has been pushed above and beyond what could be reasonably justified by the go-faster professors at Dodge. Given these circumstances, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that all vehicles based on this platform will be terminated sometime in 2023 in favor of eMuscle cars like the Charger Daytona SRT. Although Dodge is hush-hush on the subject, a brand-new Charger and a brand-new Challenger are expected to be revealed for the 2024 model year with inline-six lumps that will exceed the performance specifications of the 392-ci HEMI V8.

From a dig, the Charger in the featured clip doesn’t really stand a chance against its all-wheel-drive competition. The Audi S4 and Kia Stinger GT are smaller and lighter as well, and their all-wheel-drive systems make a world of difference in this particular scenario. To whom it may concern, the South Korean contender tips the scales at 4,179 pounds (1,896 kilograms), and the S4 is lighter still at 3,927 pounds (1,781 kilograms). Both feature force-fed V6 mills, with the Stinger GT boasting more ponies and torque.

From a roll, however, the low-rpm grunt of the naturally-aspirated V8 engine in the Charger is too much for the German and South Korean opponents. After no fewer than three digs and two rolls, the Stinger claimed a single win, the S4 two wins, and the gray-haired Charger took two wins.
