Daimler's head honcho might get his contract prolonged through 2016 and beyond if the recent momentum of Mercedes-Benz products is kept and all things go as planned.
In early 2013, Dieter Zetsche's contract as CEO of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz Cars was extended by only three years, despite everyone expecting at least five, but the event happened way before the rather unexpected awesome year that the three-pointed star had in terms of sales.

According to Manfred Bischoff, Member of the Supervisory Board and Shareholder Representative at Daimler, the German company is working on the issue of a succession to Dieter Zetsche, adding that “It is not an urgent topic. Of course this has to be planned in advance, but this is not something for public discussion.”

The remark happened at the recent annual general Daimler AG meeting in Berlin, and another senior executive who declined to be named interpreted it as enforcing the general opinion that Zetsche's contract is more than likely to be extended beyond 2016.

Among probable successors to the magic mustache man Dieter Zetsche we can also find current Mercedes-Benz sales chief and ex-head of AMG Ola Kaelenius, who is one of the two forty-year olds that could get the job when Zetsche's contract is no longer extended.

The move to keep Dieter Zetsche at the helm of Daimler AG until 2019 would pretty much downvote the chances of becoming CEO for Wolfgang Bernhard, Bodo Uebber and the head of Mercedes-Benz China operations, Hubertus Troska.
