Dacia UK Boss ‘Dreams About’ Affordable Sports Car

Dacia is set to begin UK deliveries of the Sandero, Sandero Stepway and Duster, early next year. However, it seems that these three models aren`t enough for Dacia’s UK boss, Thierry Sybord, who has admitted that he would like to add a two-seater sports car to the lineup.
This seems a bit far-fetched, and most likely will never happen, but Sybord’s point of view is still a very interesting one. “In my opinion a sports car is exactly what we need," Sybord said, "Like the original Alpine, it would be simple, affordable and most of all fun to drive - it's not necessarily about going fast," he added, while talking with autoexpress.co.uk.

Giving Renault’s collaboration with Caterham, for the creation of the Alpine sports car as an example, Sybord explained that the rear-wheel drive platform developed for Renault’s halo sports car would be far too expensive to underpin a Dacia model. Still, it could use an improved version of the front-wheel drive platform used in the Logan and Sandero, which would get special tweaks in order to improve the handling.

Sybord also added that he would like to see the Lodgy included in the UK lineup, yet he also stated that it ‘would need a facelift’ before it arrived on the Isles. Dacia is trying to capture about 1% of the total UK automotive market, next year, meaning they will have to sell at least 20,000 cars to achieve the set goal.
