Dacia has officially announced the addition of a third model to its UK lineup. The Duster and Sandero are now already available for order, yet now buyers who want extra ground clearance and beefy crossover looks, but don`t really need the Duster’s off-road capabilities can now order the all-new Sandero Stepway.
It is based on the regular Sandero hatchback, yet it gains front and rear scuffplates, plastic wheelarch extenders and roof rails. Its ride height is also slightly higher (40 mm) and it gets a rather nice set of 16-inch wheels, which are not alloys, but with the clever use of hubcaps will be able to fool all but the most eagle-eyed car bore.

Buyers can specify one of two trim levels, called Ambiance and Laureate, as well as two engines - the 0.9-liter TCE90 unit, with 90 hp or the classic Renault 1.5-liter dCI diesel, also with 90 hp. Either engine is excellent, but for that extra bit of thrift and ease of driving, we do recommend the torquey diesel, which also has 220 Nm of torque at its disposal, so overtaking will be made surprisingly effortless - it can also achieve 70.6 mpg on the combined cycle, while the petrol only manages 52.3 mpg.

Priced only £600 over the regular Sandero, a fully-specced up version, with leather upholstery, extended warranty and all the other boxes ticked costs just £10,750. It is available for order in all UK Dacia dealers as of Janary 1st 2013, with test drives beginning later in the year, in May.
