If you're a car enthusiast, it is probably the 911 that first comes to mind when speaking of Porsches. Either that or the 718 series, the Macan and Cayenne if you're more into crossovers, or perhaps some iconic models from the brand's past.
Chances are not many people will even think of the 914, but it remains an important model for the marque. Developed by Porsche and Volkswagen in the 1960s, with the former needing a new entry-level car and the latter a sports coupe, it entered production in 1969.

Built at two factories in West Germany, the Porsche 914 was a two-door targa with a rear engine and rear-wheel drive. Deemed more of a Volkswagen than a Porsche by some, it was often criticized. It was also praised by others thanks to its handling.

The 914 was on the affordable side of the sports car segment when it came out and still doesn’t break the bank. Some of the cheapest copies today are priced below the $10,000 mark, whereas the best ones tend to change hands for over $100,000.

So, where does this put the pictured one? Somewhere in between, actually. But more on the Benjamins in a few moments, as first, we have to tell you that you're looking at a 1974 model, meaning that it rolled off the line two years before production ceased.

It packs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a five-speed manual transmission. The exterior paint finish is called Ravenna Green, and it is a rare hue for this car, which was purchased new in Michigan and has remained with its first owner ever since. Bar the chrome exhaust tips and aftermarket stereo, it is an all-original example that has been properly maintained over the years.

On top of that, it doesn't have that many miles under its belt either, as the odometer reads 54,607 miles (87,881 km). As the vendor notes, it is not often that one comes across such a nicely preserved Porsche 914, which makes it even more appealing – if you're into this model, that is.

It would make for a great project car, too, as it deserves to be fully restored to its initial shine. Nevertheless, it doesn't need more gasoline in the tank to hit the road. We babbled enough about it, so now it's time to tell you how much it costs.

Garage Kept Motors has been tasked with finding it a new home, and they're willing to let it go in exchange for $46,900. That's about as much as a brand-new VW Golf R if you can find a base copy in dealer lots, as it starts at $45,665 before destination. Could this 914 be your next classic sports car?
