Since leaving the GM umbrella a few years ago, German carmaker Opel has fallen out of grace with the American public, and there’s a good chance no one remembers today the badge-engineered Opel cars sold over the years as Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Saturn, and even Cadillac machines.
Now part of the international behemoth that is Stellantis, Opel is enjoying a remarkable success in its traditional markets, more specifically Europe. It is there where come this fall the future of the brand in terms of design will be unveiled.

In September, during the IAA Mobility show in Munich, the carmaker will be presenting the Opel Experimental, a new concept car that’s not only meant to impress the crowds with German engineers' skills, but will also mark the new design language of the brand.

The news first broke last week, when Opel revealed the name of the concept, heavily inspired by the GT-X Experimental shown back in 2018. We were promised then constant updates on the project and voila! Opel delivered by releasing this week the first teaser images for the vehicle.

There is five of them, showing various parts of the Experimental while at the same time making sure they are not all too revealing.

One of the pics shows the front end of the car, the place where the Opel Compass and Vizor are seen supporting the brand new company logo, a redesigned and illuminated Blitz that was recently unveiled. Given how the front fascia seems to feature a purely decorative, closed grille, there's a good chance the concept will be electric.

The front lights of the Experimental look particularly intriguing, with thin LED strips running horizontally to either side of the logo, and vertical ones forming a center crease above and below it.

Not much of the rear is revealed in these pics, with a single image from there showing thin and long stop lights located to the very edges of the Experimental.

An interior shot of the vehicle shows just a tiny portion of what Opel refers to as the profiled seat structure, and the entire display ends with an image of a convoluted sphere that looks simply alien.

No other details about the car were released with the images, so everything else is pure speculation at this point. Opel CEO Florian Huettl did promise more details will follow soon, making us hopeful we’ll learn useful things about the first concept of the fall before long.

“The Opel Experimental marks the start of a new chapter for our brand. It was designed to provide a tangible vision of where the Opel brand is heading. We will be revealing more details soon – so stay tuned,” the executive said in a statement.
