While some people prefer smaller campervans because they offer plenty of versatility, can be used for everyday transport during the week, and are fantastic for short trips and weekend getaways, others opt for larger vehicles for their camper conversions, as they provide the ability to embark on longer outdoor adventures and more comfortably live out of the van. But there are also folks who are looking for campers based on medium vans that are easy to maneuver and can offer the best of both worlds.
The camper van conversion we're going to look at in this piece is based on a 2021 Peugeot Boxer MWB L2 H2 and provides a good balance between space and drivability. As one of the best-selling vans in the world, the Boxer has proved to be a great base for a recreational vehicle, offering both the freedom to explore new places and comfortable accommodations during travels.

This camper van is called Croyde and was crafted by Twin Coast Campers, a talented conversion outfit based in Devon, UK, that specializes in bespoke camper vans with unique layouts and features. It was completed in November 2023, and the total cost of the conversion amounted to around £24,500 (approx. $31,200) without the base van.

The 5.4-meter long, 2-meter wide, and 2.5-meter high (17.7 ft x 6.5 ft x 8.2 ft) panel van was meticulously converted into a fresh and inviting mobile living space that includes not only the comforts of home but also a fully functional off-grid electrical system tailored for the nomadic lifestyle.

Named after a small village on the west-facing coastline of North Devon, the Croyde camper van is designed mainly for carefree summer adventures. It boasts a coastal theme with an open and airy interior, a soft, soothing color palette of blue and beige inspired by the beach and ocean, light-colored wood, and natural elements like ropes and greenery.

With the sliding side door and the rear door open, the interior is super bright, inviting the outdoors in. The light pine wood on the side walls and ceiling beautifully complements the blue furniture and enhances the sensation of openness and spaciousness.

In terms of layout, the professional outfitters wanted to create two zones within the interior without making the space appear smaller. To achieve this, they crafted some beautiful oak slatted screens, which they installed between the kitchen at the front and the lounging/dining/sleeping area at the back. This way, they divided the space without blocking the view and still maintaining the feeling of open space.

The driver's cab, however, is separated from the actual living space, with a small window connecting the two areas. The full-width L-shaped kitchen is located right behind the cab and is well-appointed for cooking delicious meals on the go. It has plenty of cabinets and drawers for storage, decent counter space, a sink, a double-hob gas cooktop, and a 50-liter fridge/freezer. A 60-liter freshwater tank and an onboard water heater provide hot water to the kitchen sink and an outdoor shower point. Above the kitchen, you'll notice a small skylight for ventilation, which comes with internal blinds and a fly screen.

The other section of the van is dedicated to lounging, dining, and sleeping. It is fitted with two built-in benches with comfy blue cushions and a table mounted on a swivel arm to allow for maximum flexibility. The table can be completely removed when you want to have a walk-through interior. And when night comes, the twin sofas transform into a double bed that is 6 feet (182 cm) in length.

A highlight of this design is an outside table mounted on the rear door that you can use with a couple of camping chairs for outdoor dining, lounging, or simply enjoying the surrounding views. It's simple to use and comes with a telescopic stand, meaning you can adjust its height regardless of where you camp.

Another standout of this design is the abundance of storage solutions, including plenty of cabinets in the kitchen, an over-cab storage compartment, and upper cabinets on both sides of the van. There is even a shoe compartment right in the entryway and a dedicated drawer at the end of one seating bench for a Thetford 345 portable toilet.

The exterior of the van, on the other hand, is rather self-effacing, allowing for stealth camping. The only elements giving away the vehicle's camping nature are the solar panels on the roof, a side awning, and the underslung fresh and waste water tanks.

For off-grid adventures, Croyde comes equipped with a 200W solar panel that feeds a 130Ah AGM leisure battery. The entire solar configuration is supported by a high-quality Victron electrical system.

What's more, this charming camper is completely soundproofed and insulated to the highest standards and comes with privacy windows on the side and rear doors for your peace of mind. The insulation also provides an excellent heat barrier on warmer days, while an MV Airo 2KW diesel heater will keep you warm on colder days. Inside, most of the furniture is made of poplar plywood, a material that is both lightweight and strong.

Designed to offer camping enthusiasts and beach lovers an excellent opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the Croyde van conversion is also perfect for folks who plan cross-country road trips, as its minimalist yet comfortable and inviting interior has everything you need for a carefree journey.
