The Volkswagen Touareg is one tough vehicle, we know that for a fact and we are going to put it to the test soon, as next week we’ll be driving the Touareg facelift. Nonetheless, some people appear to believe Das Auto’s SUV is simply indestructible, or at least this is what we understand by watching the footage below.
We have to start with the offroading part. The Touareg is very capable once it leaves the road behind, but all this is true when the car still has its wheels on the terrain underneath it - by the looks of it, this example had been offroading on its roof and while we haven’t tested this Volkswagen as an off-road sleigh, we’re pretty sure it’s not very good at impersonating one. To put it another way, we are dealing with a Touareg... totaled edition.
Volkswagen may offer multiple engine options and trim levels for the model, but they haven’t built a rear-engined one yet - heck, not even its platform brother, the Porsche Cayenne, has its engine at the back.
What this means is that when the crane that came to pick up the car after the accident failed, dropping the thing onto the platform that was supposed to take it away, the poor Touareg faceplanted. The suspension did its job one final time, but the car did shave its November beard on the asphalt.
While watching the adjacent clip makes everything clear, we’s like to see how the discussion with the insurance company went.
