Chile’s capital city was the location of a dramatic scene that unfolded on Sunday when a helicopter was hit by a fire truck. Following the unfortunate incident, the chopper exploded not too long after.
Early reports indicated that the helicopter landed on one of the city’s streets to pick up a number of people injured in a car accident. However, just like in Final Destination, a fire truck that was rushing to the scene as well ended up hitting the chopper’s tail, destroying its tail rotor.
Needless to say that soon afterwards, the pilot lost control of the bird that quickly started spinning with high velocity, exploding after only a couple of seconds.
As it turns out, the accident itself was triggered by another car belonging to the authorities. The Daily Mirror reports that a police car with three officers was hit by another vehicle driven by a drunk driver. That’s why the paramedic helicopter was on the scene.
"I had been watching the commotion when they sealed off the street, and the helicopter landed, but only started filming after the helicopter had been struck on the rotor blades by the fire truck, I caught it as it was spinning out of control, and then it just exploded in a ball of flame,” said eyewitness Yuri Aguilar, the one that also captured the video below.
Unfortunately, the pilot, Captain Mario Esperidon Arce, was seriously injured being taken to the hospital, suffering multiple fractures. Needless to say that everyone hurt in the explosion, as well as the original victims, were driven to the hospital...
