Chrysler is investigating the possibility of adding a turbocharged diesel V6 engine option for the 300 full-size sedan.
According to Wards Auto, the company's president and CEO Saad Chehab announced Chrysler is looking to put a 3.0-liter V6-diesel into the 300, adding that the next-generation 200 mid-size sedan could get a diesel powerplant as well.
"I think that we are in talks about the diesels because the Thema has a diesel in Europe anyway," Chehab said. "It’s a matter of how much the customer is willing to pay for that premium. That’s the only issue with it. We have to make sure it's within the reach of people," he added, having the V6 diesel-powered Grand Cherokee's more expensive price tag in mind.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is not the company's only diesel powered vehicle, as the Ram 1500 is also slated to gain the same 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel unit. Therefore we think it's just a matter of time until we see the new powerplant in other Chrysler vehicles as well.
