Although incredibly prolific, Feadship is also one of the most innovative shipyards in the small world of top superyacht builders. Blue Sky is not only a fine example of the Dutch builder's craftsmanship but also a pioneer in many ways, which has recently gone from the hands of its original owner to a new, lucky customer.
Blue Sky will be 11 years old this year, and that's how long it has been under the ownership of the same person who commissioned it back in 2013 – a rare show of loyalty in a world where ultra-expensive superyachts are swapped faster than you could imagine.

It all started with another Feadship superyacht named Helix. During an extensive Asian tour that included Hong Kong, a wealthy tycoon from mainland China noticed it and wanted something similar for himself. The modifications that followed turned the brand-new Blue Sky into a unique, pioneering Feadship.

First of all, Blue Sky was not only the first superyacht built in the Netherlands for a Chinese customer but also the first superyacht to be built by any Western shipyard for a customer from mainland China. One of the brand's F45 Vantage models, it was customized according to its owner's requirements and certain Asian lifestyle particularities, which made it the only one of its kind in this series.

The first main customization was the addition of a tailored helipad, as per the owner's request. The second one involved two separate entertainment areas; one was a spacious Karaoke room with an 18-inch TV screen, and it was located on the sky deck lounge. Aft of the wheelhouse, the second room revealed a special Mahjong setup with an automated table for shuffling and dealing dice.

Blue Sky was also the last one in the F45 Vantage series, a successful Feadship range that launched eight superyachts. At the time of its sale, the Chinese-owned pleasure craft was also the only F45 on the market, which made it even more unique and special.

It wasn't a fast sale. The 45-meter (146-foot) superyacht entered the market for the first time ever at the beginning of last year and found a new owner this month. Stationed at the Gold Coast Marina in Hong Kong, the decade-old beauty was asking for nearly $23 million (following a $1 million price cut from the original asking price).

Apart from its special heritage and unique features, Blue Sky is a spacious floating mansion designed for extensive cruising. It can accommodate more than ten guests and a large nine-person crew. Style-wise, it boasts the understated elegance of all superyachts designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design and styled by the acclaimed British studio Bannenberg & Rowell Design.
