A Chinese minivan testing with European engineers behind the wheel in Northern Sweden – How is this possible? Are they invading, or is this simply a coincidence. Your first clue is the camouflage, the second being the name of the company that makes it: Brilliance. Yes, that's BMW's camo wrap on a car built by their Chinese joint venture partners.
It looks like the cross-continental collaboration is growing by the day. After the 2 Series Active Tourer, has BMW actually decided it loves the family man? No. There's no chance this minivan is actually based on a BMW platform, but the engine could be, as rumors suggest a 2-liter TwinPower Turbo a la' with 184 hp a la' 320i will be offered with the Brilliance Jimbei.
The uncovered van, we're told, is called the Jinbei Grace and is based on a Toyota. It was launched in 2001 and could be the backbone of this newer model.
The plate for both prototypes are Austrian, which our spies tell us is a hint that Magna, a global parts supplier and manufacturer (they made or have made the RCZ, MINI Countryman and a couple of Mercedes cars), is behind the development.
More info about the Brilliance Jinbei van could be revealed later this month at the Shanghai Auto Show.
