New Year resolutions usually don't include defunct stuff, but the automotive industry is a bit quirky in that respect. As such, is anyone surprised when an extinct Chevy Camaro SS is actually a feast for the eyes of quarter-mile drag racing fans?
Unfortunately, we are not entering 2024 with good news for American pony and muscle car enthusiasts. The choice has slimmed down extensively at the end of last year when both General Motors and Stellantis produced the final units of their respective nameplates.

Chevrolet, for example, ended production of the sixth generation Camaro Convertible at the end of November, and the final unit (A ZL1, of course) of the Camaro coupe left the assembly line in December instead of January 2024 as initially previewed. As for Stellantis, there are even more things to be sad about.

Chrysler ceased production of the 300 series sedan, leaving the not-so-popular or critically panned Pacifica minivan as the only model in the brand's current lineup. Dodge, meanwhile, stopped manufacturing the Challenger but also the current Charger. As it turns out, the latter may be the only one coming back to life as a two-door fastback with EV power and Hurricane oomph under the hood.

Back to Chevrolet, one of its latest versions of the Camaro SS showed up for a trio of brawls at the 'local' dragstrip, all dressed in white and sporting glossy black bits and pieces, including the aftermarket wheels, as a nice contrast. Its foes were nothing to sneeze at, though, so we expected a nice treat.

The videographer behind the Wheels channel on YouTube is a big fan of Bandimere Speedway (aka Thunder Mountain in the NHRA) and Mission Raceway Park (aka Thunder by the River) but also loves The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Over there, the sparkling Chevy Camaro SS was ready to prove its worth.

We all know that Mopars are hard to wield from the get-go, but anyone who knows their ins and outs will be capable of outstanding achievements with them. Such was the case here as both the Dodge and Chevy drivers knew what they were doing – they were on a level playing field when crossing past the Christmas tree. Unfortunately for Charger fans, the Camaro SS slowly crept past its opponent and finished the challenge with a flawless 12.08s versus 14.13s victory.

Secondly, the Chevrolet owner felt confident enough to attack the EV establishment and brawl with a Tesla Model 3 – most likely a Performance version. Well, given the black Jocker-style 'smile' on the coupe's front fascia, let's just say the Camaro SS machine bit more than it could chew, and while it roared all the way past the finish line, it had to admit defeat: 11.64s versus 12.27s.

Interestingly, this is never over until the old lady sings its tune, and the final skirmish in the feature embedded below is between the mighty Camaro SS and a fellow GM representative – an old, bruised, and battered Buick. Alas, the Chevy driver probably knew that something was amiss with this 'sleeper' and gave it their best: 11.97s versus 12.65s. Note how the Buick's trap speed was higher – if this was a half-mile race, things might have looked different in the end! Anyway, it was a nice show-off from all the parties involved – and it's too bad that one day we won't see any more brawls between ICE-powered sports cars or muscle sedans and the novel EV establishment…
