Chevrolet Sail EV Prepared for Guangzhou Auto Show

General Motors will attend the 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show with several goodies, including the Sail EV that could go on sale in the country in the near future. Furthermore, the company is also looking to test the market reaction regarding the model and see whether it should launch the car in adjacent markets as well, including in India where it already signed an agreement for a battery version of the Spark.

Specific details on GM's plans for both the Chinese and Indian markets when it comes to electric vehicles are not yet available, but the Sail is regarded as one of the key products in the company's portfolio for the years to come.

The 2010 Sail was launched by General Motors in China last January, but rumors regarding a potential electric configuration of the car emerged in mid-2010. The regular Sail is being offered in the country in five versions, with pricing starting at the equivalent of $8,800.

The range includes two engines, 1.2-liter S-TEC II and 1.4-liter S-TEC III which achieve fuel consumption ratings of 5.7 l/100km (41.2 mpg) and 5.9 l/100km (39.8 mpg), respectively. As for performance, the 1.2-liter unit pushes the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 12.9 seconds while the 1.4-liter does the same in 11.9 seconds.

The Guangzhou Auto Show runs from December 21 to 27 this year, so General Motors is likely to offer us more details on the electric plans during the Chinese venue.
