CarPlay Issues Plaguing Hyundai and Kia Cars, Nobody Knows What’s Going On

CarPlay is typically considered the more refined and reliable alternative to Android Auto, but Hyundai and Kia owners certainly think otherwise.
And this is because since the iOS 14 update released by Apple last fall, using CarPlay behind the wheel has been quite a nightmare for many of them, as random disconnects occur on every single drive.

And what’s worse is that nobody seems to know what’s happening, as according to car owners, some dealerships blame Apple, while the Cupertino-based tech giant says this is happening on the carmaker’s side.

Users impacted by this glitch explain that while the head unit displays a message to reconnect the phone, CarPlay still appears to run in the background.

I am having the same issue where that message comes up every five to ten minutes while driving. Everything is still connected, it just pops up and disrupts the screen. Anyhow, the car also makes me constantly re-connect the phone to the car because of the connectivity issues. I called Apple and they literally were no help,” someone says on Apple's forums.

The issue hasn’t been fixed in the last few updates shipped by Apple, though some dealerships reportedly claim that installing the most recent iOS version deals with the whole thing and resolves the CarPlay disconnecting issue for everybody.

Nevertheless, Kia and Hyundai owners with up-to-date iPhones say this isn’t the case, as the glitch is still there even after installing the newest operating system updates. On the other hand, some are being told Kia has prepared an update to resolve the issue, only that it’s available in certain regions.

Kia telling me it is Apple too. Sad thing is I love the car but this CarPlay issue is a problem. I did read on either this forum or another one that Kia Australia rolled out an update that seems to fix issue. Hopefully true and coming to the United States soon,” one user says.

We’ve reached out to both Apple and Kia for additional information on this issue and will post an update if we hear back.
