American luxury brand Cadillac is really targeting the BMW buyer with their latest compact sedan, the ATS that was recently revealed at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. They may have impressed us with the more powerful 2.0-liter engine, but the Bavarians look almost unbeatable with the F30.
Unless Cadillac covers all the basics, while also offering the necessary variants to deal not only with the 3-Series, but also other German rival from Audi and Mercedes. Honestly, it’s going to be a tall order, but coupe, convertible and wagon versions are a given.
The ATS Wagon will have to offer more than its novelty value, and estate customers are notorious about wanting fuel efficiency as well as complete refinement. TheOhilusChin, who made these very accurate renderings of what the Caddy with a big back end, correctly points out that diesels are a must for the European market. It’s a stretch, but they might be able to borrow Opel tech.
