General Motors has finally shown its new compact sedan to rival the like of BMW’s 3-Series on the global market. It’s called the ATS and it’s based on the automaker’s new RWD platform which has allowed for a total of just 3,400 lbs (1,542 Kg).
The 2013 Cadillac ATS comes with a number of interesting powertrains, including an all-new 2.0-liter turbo good for 270 hp and a 2.5-liter producing 200 hp, plus a range-topping (for now) 3.6-liter V6 with 320 horsepower. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and an electronically controlled six-speed with torque converter clutch.
GM has also confirmed that the ATS is indeed available with AWD, and it’s also their first car to 5-link independent rear suspension, plus a multi-link double-pivot MacPherson-strut front suspension with direct-acting stabilizer bar.
Sprint times and milage figures are yet to be announced, but it’s expected that the 2.0-liter turbo does over 30 mpg highway.
