Cadillac Releases First Official Image of 2013 ATS Sedan

We’ve known for quite some time that Cadillac now has global ambitions. After all, what would Chinese and Russian consumers love more that a big, highly recognizable and aesthetically imposing American-made (no really, but that’s only a detail) Cadillac?

Today, the carmaker announced two major project, the first of which is the ATS sedan, a model that hopes it can do away with big overhangs and V8 to take on BMW’s 3-Series on the global market. Thus, Cadillac has revealed the first teaser image of the new four-door, and with the magical help of Photoshop, carscoop has enhanced the image so we can get a better look at the car.

GM says that ATS is only a codename for the car, so we might see it named something else, especially dependent on the market, as the Chinese like to give names to the cars they buy. Rumors of different version of the ATS have loon been circulating the internet, and Cadillac will likely introduce stylish two-door coupe and convertible versions - just like the BMW 3-Series they are trying to take on. AWD will also be available, but the first versions will stay pure and true with RWD. Rumor has it there’s also a ATS-V coming with a 380 horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6.

This fact is further certified by GM’s announcement that the ATS will be built in Lansing Grand River, Michigan, where they also put the CTS sedan, coupe and wagon together.

“The car we codenamed ATS is being developed to be a driver’s car on an all-new Cadillac-specific RWD-AWD architecture. We have extensively and exhaustively studied the competitive segment, and we have benchmarked the best. And when this car comes out, that will be readily apparent,” General Motors North America President Mark Reuss.
