They say that the new 2013 Cadillac ATS compact sports sedan is built around a new ‘Alpha’ rear-wheel drive platform from GM, but right now, it actually is the platform, since it’s the car that developed the architecture.
But GM is also going to make the most of a good thing, by using the lightweight platform in a number of other vehicles. According to Motor Authority, who spoke with Dave Masch, the chief engineer of the ATS, the ATS’s bones will be stretched and skewed to fit the next CTS, a new Camaro, as well as a new Chevrolet compact coupe, previewed by that mysterious Code 130R.
“So we do have ways of scaling components that we have now to reach up a little bit and/or reach down, and we in fact have several products in the pipeline already that will utilize this,” Masch said.
