BMW Motorrad’s changes for 2017 are not centered on the R nineT derivations only. The whole S 1000 range gets tweaked, both mechanically and visually.
The BMW S 1000 RR comes standard with traction control and a single seat, with the optional passenger pack offered as a free alternative. A new option is represented by the ABS Pro, while the color choices grow with Granite Gray/Blackstorm metallic scheme.

Don’t worry, the red and blue with white setup is available as well, while Design Option wheels with red rim lines are standard on the Racing Red version. Power remains unchanged, boasting 199 hp at 13,500 rpm.

Moving on the BMW S 1000 R naked version, this gets a power upgrade to 165 hp at 11,000 rpm while shaving 5 lbs (2.3 kg) thanks to a lighter subframe. The fairing is new but retains the asymmetric headlights configuration with the large central air intake.

The exhaust has been retuned for a more growling sound, and the bike also gets vibration-free handlebars to increase rider comfort. ABS Pro and Assistant Pro are available as extra options.

Color wise, the S 1000 R comes in the old red/blue schemes along with new glossy Catalano Gray, which, according to BMW, it gives the bike “a particularly powerful and potent appearance, interpreting the combination of technology and dynamic performance in a strikingly masculine way.”

The adventure-ready BMW S 1000 XR gets the same 165 hp power upgrade while increasing it’s maximum payload by 24 lb (10.8 kg). Although it was already offered with an anti-vibration handlebars, the new model is sad to come with “softer isolating elements on the handlebars that effectively prevent even the finest vibrations from being passed onto the handlebar ends.”

Options for the S 1000 XR include a new Ocean Blue matte metallic color along with touring oriented accessories like heated grips, center stand, case holder, Dynamic ESA, luggage bridge and preparation for a navigation unit. More stuff can be added through the Dynamic Package, including ABS Pro, two more riding modes, Dynamic Traction Control, Shift Assistant Pro and cruise control.
