The M2 is an automotive wet dream, powerful, fast and angry. It's the car that teenagers would aspire to own if they didn't spend so much time playing games. Fans are already calling it the E30 with a turbo, and while the M4 is slightly better, its baby brother is by no means half a car.
Of course, us car guys are never satisfied with one machine. We want to have the Ford GT and SVT Raptor; the X6 M and the M4; the G63 and the C63 AMG. Heck, some may be contemplating having his and her coupes in the driveway.
If you happen to have the most awesome wife in the world, and she asks which of the two cars sounds better, you can just show her this awesome exhaust battle. In the silver corner, we have the M4 with 431 PS and 550 Nm of torque (406 lb-ft). And the newcomer wearing blue shorts is the M2 packing 370 PS and 465Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque.
Of course, the power or the fact that the M4 has one extra turbo attached to its 3.0-liter engine doesn't make any difference. If anything, the M2 sounds a bit more angry, like it has something to prove.
From this video footage, you would never know that the car on the right is smaller and cheaper. Because it's parked slightly closer to the camera, the M2 appears just as wide, and the blue paint makes it more striking. If we were to measure them, we'd find the 4er is only wider by 15mm yet it stretches out 210mm further.
But there is a considerable price difference between these contenders, as the cheapest of the M models costs €56,700 and the 4er is €73,300.
Of course, very few people can afford to buy two of the same thing, especially two-door coupes. So if you could only afford one of them, would you get the tried and tested M4 or the plucky compact car that's as small as the M3 used to be?
